Mein toller Roller

Da ich Ende November meinen Motorradführerschein gemacht habe, musste natürlich auch schnellstmöglich ein Roller her. Eigentlich war ich sehr auf eine Vespa fixiert, denn schliesslich hatte ich bereits vor fast 20 Jahren eine. Allerdings hatte ich damals auch einen Freund, der Roller reparieren konnte, und meinen Papa nah bei mir, der mich zur Not einsammeln konnte, wenn ich irgendwo liegen geblieben war (die Vespa wurde dann kurzerhand in den VW Bus verfrachtet). Das habe ich jetzt natürlich beides nicht, ausserdem scheint es in Neuseeland durchaus schwierig zu sein, an Ersatzteile zu kommen. Ausserdem sind alte Vespas ja von sehr relaxten Italienern unter der Sonne Roms zusammen geschraubt worden, sie sind also eventuell ziemlich reparaturanfällig und daher besser für Bastler geeignet. Kurzum, es dauerte nicht lange, und der freundliche Verkäufer von Scooterazzi hatte mich davon überzeugt, das Projekt Vespa für eine Weile zu verschieben, und mich statt dessen bei den zuverlässigeren Modellen umzuschauen. Geworden ist es schliesslich ein Kymco Espresso (150 cc) – ein sehr hübscher Roller, der ausserdem mit einer 4-Jahres-Garantie kommt und in den ich mich inzwischen sehr verliebt habe. Nun mache ich Wellingtons Strassen auf dem Scooter unsicher – brömmmmmmmmmm….

After I got my motorbike licence at the end of November, I had to get a scooter pretty quickly. I was really focused on getting a Vespa, since I had one almost 20 years ago. But at that time I also had a boyfriend who was able to repair scooters, as well as I had my dad close by, so he was able to come and collect me and my scooter (with his VW bus), whenever I got stuck somewhere. Nowerdays I have neither of these two, additionally it seems to be harder to get Vespa parts in New Zealand than it is in other parts of the world. On top of it there’s the fact, that old Vespas have been built by relaxed Italians under the sun of Rome, which means they might be better suited for people who would love to do the maintenance work themselves (today they are built in India, not sure if that’s much better). To cut a long story short, it didn’t take much to convince me to get started with a different model. Eventually I got a beautiful 150 cc Kymco Espresso, that comes with a 4-year-warrenty and made me fall in love with it in very short time. Now I’m scooting up and down Wellington’s hills – brömmmmmmmm….
